Activities honored local WW II veteran
Bob Simenson, Rice Lake

I appreciate all the individuals and organizations that made me feel especially honored this Veterans Day. I attended the Elks Lodge annual USO Party on Friday night. I had my picture on the Salute to Veterans page in The Chronotype.
I felt like an honored guest at the Veterans Day program held at the National Guard Armory. The affair was well-attended and included many students from the Rice Lake School District. Troop 28 of the Boy Scouts led the Pledge of Allegiance, the middle school eighth-grade band performed the national anthem; eighth-grade choir sang "God Bless the USA." Larry Anderson, memorial committee chairman, made the introductions, and the Veterans Center Honor Guard in their brand new colorful hats and jackets presented the colors and gave a rifle salute at the programs ending.
The featured speaker was local author David Tindell, who gave a memorable account of the historical accomplishments of our military veterans in all the wars, past and present.
After sharing greetings with many of the attenders there, I proceeded to Adventures Restaurant where I was a guest for a free lunch. Later in the evening I was welcomed at Applebee's Restaurant for their annual free dinner for veterans.
Wow! What a day. Now, today, I am back to being just plain Bob Simenson, WW II veteran.
