Allen Mantell

Allen E. Mantell, age 91, of Sarona died Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center. He was born May 17, 1922 in Milwaukee; the son of August "AC" and Elsa "Elsie" (Ladwig) Mantell.
Allen served in the United States Army during World War II in the European theater. After being honorably discharged on January 29, 1946, he married Eleanor (Toots) Hennig of Chicago, IL.
Allen worked with his father at their automotive repair shop in Chicago until he assumed a position with Allstate Insurance. He and Toots spent free time and summers with their kids at their beloved lake home, called "Arkashun Dare Wee Ar," in Sarona, WI. Allen retired from Allstate in 1984. He and Toots moved from Bloomington, MN to their lake home. They were avid nature lovers and enjoyed their country lifestyle along with entertaining friends and family.
Toots succumbed to cancer in 1994. Allen later married Jackie Winselman and they lived in Sarona until her death in 2007. He spent his later years at "Arkashun" in the summer and Grayslake, IL in the winter. Allen led a life to be envied and will be missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his chidren Ellyn (Mark) Schaefer of Round Lake Beach, IL and Bruce of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his grandchildren Krista and Eric (Sarah); and great-grandchildren: Joshua and Alayna.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, and sister Audrey in 1970.
Private family services will be held later this summer in Sarona, WI. Memorial donations can be made to the Hunt Hill Audobon Sanctuary in Sarona (www.hunthill.org) or a charity of your choice.
The Skinner Funeral Home in Rice Lake is serving the family.
