Roland Hayes

Roland D. Hayes, age 82, of Rice Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 4, 1931, in Rice Lake, WI, to Herbert and Minnie (Roux) Hayes.
Roland graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1948 and later entered the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably
discharged.
On June 16, 1957 he was married to Dorothy Zieroth in Dobie, WI. They lived and farmed in the town of Oak Grove until retiring in 1994. Roland was named Outstanding Young Farmer in 1966. He enjoyed reading, traveling, collecting John Deere tractors and restoring tractors.
Roland Hayes is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff Hayes of Union Grove, WI and John and Linda Hayes, of Rice Lake, WI; three daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Steve Stipetich, of Ashland, WI, JoAnn and Tom Harrison, of Troutdale, OR and Janice and Gary Solum, of Rice Lake, WI; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a special companion, Carolyn Demers of Rice Lake, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Minnie Hayes; wife, Dorothy Hayes; two brothers, Marshall and Raynold; and a sister, Eleanor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dobie, Fr. David Oberts officiating, with interment in the church cemetery where military rites will be accorded by Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
