Celina Verdegan

Celina M. Verdegan, 90, of Ladysmith, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Ladysmith Nursing Home. Celina was born on December 29, 1922 in St. Ann, Illinois, a daughter of Nicholas and Eva Dionne Charais.
She was the eldest of ten children. She grew up in Gary and Chesterton, Indiana and her family later moved to Wisconsin. She served in the Navy from October 1944 to April 1946. She married Earl A. Verdegan on September 10, 1947 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Ladysmith, WI.
Celina spent most of her life dairy farming. She loved going to church and volunteering at many church activities. She was a member of Our Lady of
Sorrows parish and the
Secular Servites of Mary.
When not in the garden she could be found baking (her grandchildren especially remember her keeping the cookie jar full). She enjoyed going to her monthly card club and teaching her grandchildren how to play card games. For many years her sons joined her for
early morning coffee before work. She was a dedicated fan at her child-ren's and grandchildren's
sporting events.
Celina was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents, Nicholas and Eva Charais; two sisters, Mildred (Paul) Van Der Loop and Rita (Harry)
Lachowin; daughter-in-law, Wynn (Phil) Baughman Verdegan.
Celina is survived by her children, Ken (Arlene) of Tony, Kathy of Minneapolis, Len (Pam) of Ladysmith, Larry (Diana) of Tony, Russ (Terry) of Ladysmith, Phil (Dianne) of Glen Flora and Terry (Christe) of Cameron. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, Tim, Jim, Joe and Kristy, Kelly and Kim, Jenny, Corey and Tracy, Alyssa, Andrea, Whitney, Haily, Jer, Caramy, Chase and Jessica, Garrett and Max; and nine great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brothers, Robert (Jean) Charais of Ladysmith, James (Carolyn) Charais of Chippewa Falls, John (Dease) Charais of Forest Lake, MN, Patrick (Diane) Charais of Arden Hills, MN; sisters, Theresa (Frank) Vojtasek of Rochester, IN; Mary Lou (Eddie) Kostka of Ladysmith, WI, Carol (Robert) Sheeran of Spring Creek, NV.
Funeral service was held Friday, November 15, 2013 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Ladysmith with Fr. Gene Murphy and Deacon Doug Sorenson officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in
Ladysimth. Memorials may be given to Our Lady of Sorrows School. Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
