Gladys Burdick-Ellison

Gladys Burdick-Ellison of Eau Claire, formerly of Rice Lake and Barron, passed away at Dove Healthcare-West on August 22, 2013. She was the daughter of John and Famie (Peterson) Roen. Gladys was born on June 22, 1925.
She attended rural Lone Elm School and after graduating from 8th grade, she did housework for several families. In later years she was employed in housekeeping for 17 years at Indianhead Medical Center.
Gladys married George Burdick from Baraboo on June 27, 1946 at Rice Lake Gospel Tabernacle. To this union five children were born.
She is survived by her children, Greg (Kathy) of Erie, CO, Gaylord (Peggy) of Rockford, IL, Grant (Sandy) of Rice Lake, and Ginger Burdick of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren, Jeff Michna, Shannon Hicks, Heather Stone, Olin, Paul and Nathan Burdick, Lacy Saffert, Cody Burdick, Ryan Tabaka, Laura Hawkins, Taylor and Kendra Burdick; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orville (Ginny) Roen of IL and John (Carol) Roen of TX; her favorite son-in-law, Jerry Tabaka of Eau Claire; brother- in-law, Jim Phillips of TX; and special nephew, Arvid (Norma) Roen of Rice Lake.
George Burdick passed away June 27, 1988 (on their 42nd anniversary). Gladys then married Arnold Ellison in 1989. He passed away on July 12, 2009. Gladys' blended family includes; Carsten (Sally) Ellison of Barron; Jean (Mike) Sales of Fifield; seven grandchildren; and several great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; daughter, Gwen Tabaka; brother, Alvin Roen; sister, Eunice Phillips; step-grandson, James Ellison; nieces, Cindy Hintz and Gloria Roux; nephews, Gordon and Gailon Roen.
Gladys enjoyed playing the piano, singing and doing crosswords. She also enjoyed making meals for her family. Her specialties were lefse, rye bread, raisin bread, donuts, pizzelles and many more family

A visitation for Gladys will be held at the home of Grant and Sandy Burdick, 501 E. Slocumb St., Rice Lake, on Friday, September 13 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 at Maranatha Evangelical Free Church, Rice Lake with Pastor Dan Reid and Chaplin Bruce Fredrickson officiating.
Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Nora Cemetery after the service.
