Iona Carlson, 89, of Turtle Lake, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at Golden Age Manor in Amery. She was born December 17, 1923 in Ollie, MT to Alvin and Ina (Carter) Rost.
As a young girl she moved to Cameron and she graduated from Cameron High School in 1942. From there, she worked at Rice Lake Hospital, Eau Claire Defense Factory until it closed and then at Handle Factory in Cameron.
She was married in Cameron, WI on May 18, 1946 to Vernon Carlson, and they moved to Turtle Lake in 1950. Iona was the manager of A&M Telephone Company for 43 years. She enjoyed flowers and birds, baking, watching game shows and Green Bay Packer football.
Ione was preceded in death by her husband on November 23, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bernard Rost; two sisters, Alvina Wallin and Velva Forrester; and her son-in-law, John Barthman.
She is survived by one son, Steve (Paula) Carlson of Turtle Lake; two daughters, Connie Barthman of Reeve and Rebecca (Delbert) Todd of Turtle Lake; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-
great-grandchild and one brother, Donald (Beverly) Rost of Weyerhauser.
A celebration of Iona's life was held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Parkview United Methodist Church, Turtle Lake, WI, with Rev. Keith Hewitt officiating. Burial of cremains was in Lakeview Cemetery, Turtle Lake, WI. Pallbearers were Matthew Todd, Alvin Todd, Michele Carlson, Ryan Braastad, Kurt Carlson and John Barthman, Jr.
Skinner Funeral Home of Turtle Lake served the family.
