Esther M. Miller, 88, of Cumberland, died Friday, August 2, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. She was born January 7, 1925 in Buckeye, IA to Charles and Edith (Case) Huehn and was raised in the Town of Johnstown, WI.
Esther graduated from Cumberland High School in 1943. She was married in Luck, WI on May 30, 1943 to George Miller, they moved to California to work at an airplane factory and they started their family.
They moved back to Cumberland, she raised her family and helped George on the farm before taking employment at 3M some years later. Esther also worked seasonally at Seneca Foods until 1998.
George preceded her in death on July 20, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Hazel Droege, Francis Grover, Butch Huehn, Marge Turcotte and Hazel Johnson.
Esther was an extremely patient and kind woman who had a quiet presence but whose words held great meaning. Her faith was the backbone of her life and she set a wonderful example of God's love to her family and those who knew her.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Dennis) Ritchie of Prior Lake, MN; Rosemary (Jim) Lavaliere of Rice Lake and Denise (David) Zappa of Cumberland; two sons, Brian (Kathy) Miller of Chetek and Tim Miller of Cumberland; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Nystrom of Cumberland and Dorothy Johnson of Osceola.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cumberland with Rev. John Miels officiating. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery, Cumberland,WI.
Pallbearers were Steve Ritchie, Jeff Lavaliere, John Miller, Adam Rosin, Mickey Babcock and Kenny Droege. Honorary Pallbearers were Tommy Zappa and Matt Rosin.
Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland served the family.
