Sylvia K. Thoni, age 101, formerly of Rice Lake, WI, died peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at North Ridge Care Center in New Hope, MN, after a long and grace-filled life.
The former Sylvia Lee was born February 13, 1912 in Drummond, WI to Jon and Gunhild (Nielsen) Lee.
She was married to Casper "Cap" Thoni on December 26, 1935 in Rice Lake, WI. Sylvia and her husband lived all of their 51 years of married life in Wisconsin. They lived in southern Wisconsin for 16 years where Casper was a Swiss cheese maker. During those years, they were blessed with three children; Lee, Kay and Rick.
In the early 50s the family moved to a dairy farm in rural Rice Lake, WI, where they lived until 1977 when Casper and Sylvia moved to a new home in Rice Lake.
During their lives in the Rice Lake area, the family was actively involved in Our Savior's Lutheran Church which became an anchor for their community life.
Casper died in 1986 after a lengthy illness and in 1995, Sylvia moved to the Minneapolis, MN area to live closer to all three of
Sylvia Thoni is survived by her son, Lee (Phyllis); her daughter, Kay; her son, Rick (Linda); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Francis Punderson of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Elizabeth Fuesz of Elmhurst, IL and Annabelle Smatlak of Gig Harbor, WA; and many nieces an nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Casper "Cap" Thoni; her parents, Jon and Gunhild Lee; her daughter-in-law, Patricia; her granddaughter, Kaari; sister, Eva Severson; and brothers, Warren and Raymond.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI, Rev. Ralph Marquardt officiating, with interment in Orchard Beach Cemetery in Rice Lake.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
