Melin-Akhmerova

Dr. Bruce and Christine Melin, of Garden City, Kan., announce the marriage of their son, Alexander Conrad Melin, of Lawrence, Kan., to Svetlana Akhtyamovna Akhmerova, of Ufa, Russia. She is the daughter of Akhtyam Khasanovich Akhermov and Venera Minetdinovna Akhmerova of KirgizMiyaki, Bashkortostan, Russia.
The 12:30 p.m. double-ring ceremony took place on Aug. 24, 2013 at the Russian Drama Theater in Ufa, Russia.
A reception and dance were held after the ceremony, hosted by the bride's parents, at the AMAKS Hotel in Ufa.
The groom's parents and sister and brother-in-law attended the ceremony in Russia.
The bride is a graduate of the mathematics faculty of Bashkortostan State University in Ufa, Russia, with a degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. She is employed as an engineer-programmer at Iska-Pro in Ufa, Russia.
The groom is a graduate of the University of Kansas, with a bachelor's degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures, and a master's degree in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies. He is currently in his final year of study at the University of Kansas School of Law.
The groom is the grandson of Pat Drost of Rice Lake and the late Rollie Drost.
