Fireworks displays explode Saturday
Rice Lake's annual Fourth of July fireworks display is Saturday, July 4 along the lakeshore at City Park. Fireworks begin at about 9:30 p.m.

A Music in the Park concert with a performance by the Rice Lake Municipal Band, directed by Mike Joosten, precedes the fireworks at 7:30 p.m. at City Park. Rep. Mary Hubler is guest emcee. Lakeshore Drive will be closed to traffic during the evening.

For the 15th consecutive year, Melrose Pryotechnics will produce the fireworks display, using Centennial Island as the launching site.

The Rice Lake Speedway presents its annual Firecracker Special on Thursday, July 2. Racing begins at 7 p.m., with a large display of both aerial and ground fireworks at dark. There's no racing Saturday night.

Some communities have their fireworks displays ready to blast off Friday evening, July 3.

In the Mikana/Birchwood area, fireworks are planned at dusk Friday by Tagalong Golf Resort.

In Shell Lake, where the country's birthday is always celebrated on the 3rd, music by the Eagle River Band is planned from 8 p.m. to midnight. Its fireworks commence at dusk from Memorial Park, where city and chamber representatives will collect donations before and during the event.

Festivities continue Saturday in Shell Lake with a Fine Art Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Memorial Park, where in addition to 30 artists there will be music by the instrumental band Spiritwood and food for sale. Those desiring dessert can find it at the Washburn County Historical Museum, where a pie and ice cream social takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Shell Lake Sailing Club's regatta starts at noon.

At Exeland the holiday weekend is devoted to baseball but starts off Friday with a community potluck at 5:30 p.m., followed by music from 6-10 p.m. and culminating with a fireworks display. Saturday's baseball games start at 11 a.m and 3 p.m. followed Sunday by a tournament, all at the Exeland Sports Center.

At Cumberland, Tourist Park is the place to be. Happening Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight is a beer and brat bash with music by Trees on the Moon. Saturday's activities start with kids games at 11 a.m., volleyball and horseshoe tournaments, along with the Duck for the Oyster band at noon, another beer and brat bash with music by Stray Voltage at 5 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.

At Weyerhaeuser, Saturday's events start with a volleyball tournament at 8 a.m., a Little League tournament, grilled chicken dinner in the park pavilion at 11 a.m., fireworks at dusk and the 35th annual Fireman's Ball and open air dance from 8 p.m. to midnight.

At Chetek, the 35th annual Liberty Fest gets under way Friday with a Fishy Four 4-mile run/walk, softball tournament, Hydroflites water ski show and sawdust pile money hunt, ending with a street dance by the Crowdedheads.

Saturday features a breakfast, softball tournament, Blast from the Past car show, Indianhead Country art and craft show, horseshoe pitching contest, parade, beach party and Hydroflites show all leading up to a fireworks display at dusk shot over Chetek Lake between Red Rock and White Rock resorts.

Festival events on Sunday, July 5 include continuation of the art and craft show, a quilt show, a horse pull and another Hydroflites show.

Ha e you heard of editing your work, checking days and dates against a calendar. A child could have done this better. I wonder how ma y good folks got totally mis-guided by your hapless efforts. Please get someone else to do this next time!

The dates in the article for fireworks in the chronotype are wrong. Sunday is July 4th not saturday.
