4/9/2014 2:47:00 PM Baseball players may get Monday start
After three postponements, the Rice Lake Warriors hope to open their baseball season Monday. Some grass was showing on the high school field Tuesday as snow-melting temperatures finally arrived this week. Rice Lake is scheduled to host Hayward in a 7 p.m. game Monday. Warriors head coach Mike Neil said that date will depend on the weekend weather, which calls for a chance of rain. After Monday, next week's schedule has hosting River Falls in a 4:30 p.m. start Thursday, April 17. So far, Rice Lake's games vs. Cumberland last Friday, vs. Bloomer on Monday and vs. Northwestern on Tuesday have all been postponed, with no makeup dates set. When the Warriors finally take the field they'll have five returning varsity players from last year's team that went 8-10 and won the Division 2 regional title. Those returning players are seniors Turner Swanson and Anthony Lebron, juniors Alex Kempf and Noah Pierce, and sophomore Hunter Ashlin. The other nine players on the 14-player roster were junior varsity players last season. All are sophomores. Those sophomores moving up to varsity this season are Parker Buckley, Logan Hile, Mitchell Kleusch, Michael Lindau, Cole Paulson, Austin Piecuch, Lucas Robarge, Seth Rowe and Jaron Winkler.
