Rice Lake Youth Baseball hosts its first Little League state tournament beginning this weekend.
Six teams are coming to Rice Lake to compete for the Wisconsin championship in the Age 10 and Under division.
The tournament runs for 6 days, beginning with opening ceremonies and first games Saturday and ending with the championship game Thursday, Aug. 15.
All 16 games in the double elimination tournament will be played on Meggers Field on the UW-Barron County campus. The adjoining Moore's Field will be used for practices.
Rice Lake Youth Baseball volunteers are putting the final touches on the fields and the enlarged, remodeled concessions/bathrooms building this week.
"Community support has been just great," said Russ LaPoint, a tournament director, on Tuesday while helping install a plastic protective cover atop the fence encircling Meggers Field.
LaPoint and Steve Fisher, another tournament director, said that Rice Lake Youth Baseball continues to take donations to help pay for the new concessions building.
The Eau Claire Nationals are representing the local Little League district in the state tournament after defeating Rice Lake in the district championship in July.
Joining the Eau Claire Nationals in the six-team state field are Whitefish Bay, Appleton, Rhinelander, Kennedy (Madison) and Lakeland (Bristol).
Beginning Saturday, three games will be played each day through Wednesday, Aug. 14. The championship game on Aug. 15 is at 3 p.m.
Games Saturday through Wednesday are at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Saturday's schedule includes opening ceremonies at 10:15 a.m. and a picnic following the 4 p.m. game.
Sunday's schedule includes the home run derby and skills competition following the 4 p.m. game.
Any businesses or individuals wanting to help sponsor the tournament or donate to the new concessions/bathrooms building should contact LaPoint at 715-205-2125 or Fisher at 715-205-7557.
